Nokia & Duckie Brown Auction 8801s for FIT Scholarship
During New York Fashion Week, Nokia and critically acclaimed menswear design house Duckie Brown are coming together to benefit the next generation of designers with the establishment of the Duckie Brown/Nokia menswear design scholarship at New York's Fashion Institute of Technology. In a break from tradition, Nokia and Duckie Brown are eschewing the lavish gift bags often given to guests at fashion shows, and are making donations to the scholarship fund in the names of the attendees.

Additionally, five exclusive Nokia 8801 phones -- complete with Duckie Brown's signature "Cock and Crown" emblem etched into the phone's stainless steel cover and a Duckie Brown pocket protector -- like those being used in the fashion show -- are being auctioned on eBay to raise additional funds for the Duckie Brown/Nokia menswear design scholarship. The auction begins on Saturday, September 10th and will run through the duration of New York Fashion Week, ending on Saturday, September 17th. All proceeds from the auctions will go towards the scholarship fund.

Check out the Sakamoto-scored 8801 at ebay.

Alva Noto + Ryuichi Sakamoto Announce Premiere Dates
forma announces a major European tour of insen, the much-anticipated live collaboration between critically-acclaimed German electronic composer/visual artist Carsten Nicolai [alva noto] and Ryuichi Sakamoto.

Released in March 2005 on the raster-noton label, the album insen has already received critical acclaim. This new live production of the collaborative project will feature the introduction of a specially commissioned new digital instrument used by Nicolai. An on-stage video installation by the artist will create a distinctive stage set featuring dynamic, real-time visualisation of the sound as graphics.

insen will be presented in major venues across Europe, with a world premiere at the Opera House in Chemnitz, Nicolai”Ēs home town. The tour continues with dates in London, Paris, Berlin, Chiasso, Rome, Milan, Bari, Modena and Udine.

Berlin-based Carsten Nicolai is an artist whose work comprises images, installations and music. Exhibited and performed in major galleries and festivals world-wide, Nicolai's works captivate consistently through elegance, simplicity and cool technicism. As alva noto, his compositions combine pared-down electronic sounds with the rhythmic groove of hip hop and R&B.

insen demonstrates these artists' aspirations to explore the idea of electronic music as an inspiration for new musical structures.

The insen tour is produced by forma arts and media and co-produced by Romaeuropa Festival 2005 / Santa Cecilia It's Wonderful
